Brazilian poultry exports are up 9% in 2021 to a record 4.6 million tons, the Brazilian Animal Protein Producers Association (ABPA) said January 7 on its official website.

Producers noted that the reorientation of markets offset the drop in supplies to CHINA , the largest importer of Brazilian poultry. Thus, record levels were achieved.

Poultry MEAT EXPORT revenue in 2021 was $7.66 billion, up 25.7% from last year, ABPA added.

Asia imported 1.64 million tons of Brazilian poultry, up 0.5% year on year, even though exports to China fell 5% to 640,000 tons. Increased sales to Japan and the Philippines helped offset a drop in China, ABPA said.

“Despite a slight decline (in 2021 - approx.), China remains the main export destination for Brazilian poultry and is expected to maintain this position,” said ABPA HEAD Ricardo Santin.

The countries of the Middle East bought 1.33 million tons of Brazilian poultry, which is 0.3% less than in 2020. Exports to Africa increased by 19.2% to 662.3 thousand tons. Deliveries to the European Union increased by 13.2% and amounted to 193.2 thousand tons.

In 2022, the association expects to further increase its share of global exports.

Recall that the main problem in recent months in the industry has been the rapid spread of bird flu in Asia and Europe.

Fifteen countries reported outbreaks of avian influenza in poultry between October and the end of December 2021. This is mainly due to the spread of the H5N1 strain, according to the World Organization for Animal HEALTH.
