The Ministry of Agriculture of the German state of Hesse reported the detection of five more cases on Saturday, June 22. All cases were found in a core area of 7,300 hectares in the district of Gross-Gerau, which was established around the first detected case on June 14.

The new cases were found approximately 500 m away from the original case. Authorities said 23 animals have been tested in just the last few weeks. Six animals have tested positive so far and two animals are still being tested.

Meanwhile, most of the approximately 70 pig farms in the restricted area have been tested for signs of ASF infection - so far there has been no evidence of the disease spreading to domestic pigs. Most farms, according to Top Agrar, are relatively small and have fewer than 10 pigs.
