The department clarified that retailers “have taken on voluntary obligations to limit their own markups to no more than 5% of the purchase price for certain categories of socially important goods.” These include, for example, bread, MILK , eggs , bananas, cheese, baby food , toothpaste and toilet paper .

This measure will increase the availability of goods for Russians. The department, in turn, will monitor how retail chains limit prices.

Previously, a number of federal chains have already introduced and maintain a system of voluntary markup restrictions. This applies to a 5% markup on individual items of four product categories (dairy products , SUGAR , borscht vegetables, bread and bakery products). These are domestically produced goods, the most in demand in terms of sales volumes and presented in stores in sufficient quantities.
