A resident of Molodechno received 3.5 years in prison for an accident causing severe injuries to a child

February 23, MINSK. The prosecutor's office of the Vileika district upheld in COURT the state prosecution against a 43-year-old resident of Molodechno, who was charged with driving while intoxicated , which negligently caused serious bodily injury, BelTA informs citing the information service of the prosecutor's office of the Minsk region.

it was established that on August 13, 2022, at about 19.40, a drunken woman was driving a Volkswagen Polo car along the P28 Minsk-Molodechno-Naroch road in the direction of Molodechno at a speed of at least 84 km/h. On the 85th km of the highway, at a roundabout of the road, the defendant lost control of the car and flew out of the carriageway, where she crashed into a roadside tree.

As a result of an accident, a minor passenger of the car suffered serious bodily injuries that posed a danger to life. Volkswagen was not equipped with a child seat.

At the hearing, the woman admitted her guilt in full. Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor and the evidence presented, the court of the Vileika district issued a guilty verdict. On the basis of part 4 of article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, she was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 3 years and 6 months with serving in a correctional colony in a settlement with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for eight years.

The defendant appealed the verdict on appeal. Without contesting her guilt, she believed that the punishment she had chosen was excessively severe. The court of appeal left the woman's complaint unsatisfied, and the verdict of the court of first instance remained unchanged.

The verdict came into force.
