February 23, MINSK. Four pedestrians died on the country's roads in three days, BelTA learned from the main department of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“In recent days, the most common type of accident is a collision with a pedestrian. Four tragic incidents occurred in three days. At the same time, more than 2,000 foot violators of traffic rules were brought to justice, of which 409 for the lack of retroreflective elements at night. 327 pedestrians were on the roadway in a state of intoxication," the traffic police said.

So, yesterday, a fatal incident occurred at about 20.25 in the agricultural town of Shchitkovichi, Starodorozhsky district, on Sovetskaya street. A 51-year-old driver in a Volkswagen Golf ran over a 24-year-old local resident who was lying on the roadway. The pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.

As noted, in January this year, due to the direct fault of pedestrians, 33 accidents were committed, in which 13 people died and 21 were injured. In 64% of cases (21 accidents), injured pedestrians were intoxicated .

"Pedestrians should be attentive and careful when participating in traffic, move along sidewalks, pedestrian or bicycle paths, and only in their absence - along the side of the road. In conditions where the sides are not suitable for traffic, it is allowed to walk along the edge of the carriageway, be sure to meet In this case, with insufficient visibility and in the dark, the pedestrian must identify himself with flickers.A retroreflective bandage, suspension or vest allow the pedestrian to "glow" in the headlights at a distance of 130 to 400 m. The driver has the opportunity to timely see a person in the dark and take measures to avoid a collision," state traffic inspectors drew attention.

It is necessary to cross the carriageway only in designated places, making sure in advance that all cars had time to stop. It should be borne in mind that the car cannot stop instantly, and on wet and slippery roads, the braking and stopping distance of the car increases significantly.

"We remind you that a violation of traffic rules by a pedestrian entails liability in the form of a fine in the amount of 1 to 3 basic units. If the pedestrian participant is in a state of intoxication at the time of the offense, the fine increases to 5 BV. A pedestrian who violates the rules that led to the creation of an emergency situation, punishable by a fine of up to 8 BV," the ministry stressed.

The traffic police asks if drunken pedestrians are found on or near the roadway to report "alarming" coordinates by calling 102. "In this way we can save a person's life and save drivers from an unexpected tragedy," law enforcement officers concluded.
