One-year-old child dies in road accident in Voronovsky district

A one-year-old child was killed in a traffic accident in Voronovo District, two more children and their parents were taken to hospital, BelTA learned from the Department of Internal Affairs of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee.

At about 23:35 on 29 May, a 55-year-old driver of a Mercedes with a semi-trailer was driving on the 58th kilometer of the Ivye - Trokely - Radun highway. When exiting a curve in the road, he drove onto the right shoulder in the direction of travel, as a result of which he lost control of the car. As a result, the vehicle ended up in the oncoming traffic lane, where a head-on collision occurred with an Audi driven by a 34-year-old man .

The driver of the truck fled the scene, but was soon detained by the police near the agro-town of Pogorodno. At the time of his detention, the citizen was in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication . The degree of his intoxication was 1 ppm.

"At the scene of the accident, the victims of the accident were provided with the necessary medical care. The driver of the Audi, as well as the 27-year-old passenger and two minor children who were in the car, were taken to the Lida Central District Hospital with injuries of varying severity, where they underwent all the necessary diagnostic and treatment measures, including surgical interventions. The condition of the children is assessed as extremely serious and serious. Medical care was provided by doctors of the Lida Central District Hospital, as well as regional specialists who immediately arrived. The rapid arrival of regional specialists was made possible thanks to the assistance and support of the State Traffic Inspectorate. In addition, republican specialists were called in," the main HEALTH department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee added.

The third child, born in 2024 , died at the scene of the accident.

"An investigative task force is working at the scene. A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 317 (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting through negligence in the death of a person or causing serious bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Belarus," the Investigative Committee emphasized.

The police once again warns about the inadmissibility of driving any transport while intoxicated. No reason can justify drunk driving.
