The Volkovysk district court sentenced a man who killed a dog in front of children

September 28, Grodno. The Volkovysk District COURT ruled on a criminal case of cruelty to an animal that resulted in its death. A BELTA correspondent was told about this by the press service of the Grodno Regional Court.

In July 2023, a resident of the Volkovysk district, not far from his house in the agricultural town of Rupeyki, in the presence of young children, grabbed a mongrel dog sitting on the side of the road by the neck and forcefully threw it into the bushes. As a result of the incident, the animal died. It was stated that the dog's death was due to mechanical asphyxia. At the time of the incident the man was able toALCOHOL intoxication .

At the court hearing, the defendant in the case admitted partial guilt. The man explained that, while drunk, in the evening he saw his children near the house on Molodezhnaya Street; at that moment there was a dog next to his son. He explained that in this way he tried to protect the child from a stray dog. The man admitted that he could have contacted the village council to catch the animals, or filed a complaint with the police or other authorities. The defendant did not rule out that everything that happened was seen by children , who immediately ran away in fear and told their loved ones about what happened.

The court found the defendant's arguments about his intention to protect his child from infection from a stray dog ​​to be illogical and inconsistent, since they were refuted by the evidence examined at the trial. By a court verdict, the accused was found guilty of cruelty to an animal, resulting in its death, committed out of hooligan motives, in the presence of an obviously minor, and on the basis of Part 1 of Article 339-1 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to arrest for a period of two months. Also, on the basis of Article 107 of the Criminal Code, compulsory treatment for chronic ALCOHOLISM was applied to the man . The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and protested in the manner prescribed by law.
