A court in Baranovichi sentenced a driver to five years for a drunken accident with a victim.

October 5, Brest. The COURT of the Baranovichi district and the city of Baranovichi announced the verdict in a criminal case regarding an accident in which a passenger was seriously injured. BELTA reports this with reference to the press service of the Brest Regional Court.

In May 2023, the accused got behind the wheel of an Audi car in a state ofdrunk , lost control, causing the car to skid. The car crashed into a road sign, slid into a ditch, and then overturned. As a result of the accident, a passenger in the car received serious injuries.

“The man fully admitted his guilt and compensated for the moral damage caused to the victim. The court recognized sincere repentance for the crime, the presence of a dependent young child and voluntary compensation for damage as circumstances mitigating the responsibility of the accused,” the court noted. At the same time, the court also took into account aggravating circumstances - the driver deliberately violated safety rules.

The court found the man guilty under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to five years in prison to be served in a correctional colony in a community setting. The defendant was also deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for eight years.

The verdict did not enter into legal force. it can be appealed and protested.
