Drunk driver who committed a fatal accident in Mogilev was sentenced to five years in prison

July 13, MINSK . The Mogilev transport prosecutor's office supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 28-year-old local resident. He was charged with a violation while driving in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles, which negligently caused the death of a person, BelTA was told in the information service of the prosecutor's office of the Mogilev region.

The accident occurred on March 20, 2023 at about 10:40 p.m., when the drunken defendant, hiding in a Porsche Panamera Turbo from traffic police officers, raced along Stroiteley Street at a speed of at least 103 km/h. At some point, there was a skid, and the car was thrown from the roadway directly onto a passerby and a stop. The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man, was seriously injured and died at the scene of the accident.

The defendant admitted his guilt in full. Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the COURT of the Leninsky district of Mogilev delivered a guilty verdict. On the basis of part 4 of article 317 of the Criminal Code, the man was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 5 years with serving in a correctional colony under general regime conditions with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a term of 8 years. The verdict has not entered into force, it can be appealed and protested on appeal.
