January 13,
MINSK . Rescuers across the country have begun large-scale preventive measures to prevent deaths in fires, the
Ministry of Emergency Situations told BELTA .
Events will be held in every region of the country. Rescuers will visit citizens’ households, check the condition of the stove heating, install autonomous fire detectors if necessary, and also remind them of fire safety rules and answer citizens’ questions. The maximum number of employees of emergency departments and departments is involved.
This approach is dictated by the realities of life. Thus, according to operational data, in 12 days from the beginning of the year, 278 fires occurred in Belarus, in which 47 people died. “Emergencies in the housing stock occur primarily from neglect of issues of collective and personal safety, failure to comply with its basic requirements. Thus, according to preliminary data, the main causes of fire incidents were carelessness when smoking (usually while intoxicated), as well as a malfunction or "neglect of the rules for using stoves and electrical equipment. An important factor in the deterioration of the fire hazard situation was the low air temperature, which caused an increased load on stove heating and electrical wiring of private residential buildings," the department explained.
Rescuers systematically continue to create a culture of life safety in society. Outreach
work with the population continues constantly. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations primarily visit single and elderly citizens and people with disabilities living alone, large families, and people leading an antisocial lifestyle. Such meetings are also held during events, ten-day fire safety events, etc.
Also, rescuers constantly focus the attention of citizens on their personal responsibility for compliance with fire safety requirements in residential buildings owned by citizens as private property, as provided for by law.
The preventive
campaign in the residential sector of all regions of the country will continue on January 14. The main goal is saved and saved lives.
“Monitor the serviceability of heating equipment and electrical wiring in your homes, check the functionality of autonomous fire detectors, and if they are missing, install them in your house or apartment. Don’t forget about your family and friends living in villages: visit elderly parents and help them bring them to fireproof condition of the household. Do not smoke in the house, especially in
ALCOHOL intoxication . By following simple fire safety rules, you will protect yourself and your loved ones from the possible tragic consequences of neglecting them,” the rescuers recalled.
Closely monitors issues of preventing fires and deaths from them, and also takes a direct part in developing solutions aimed at increasing the effectiveness of this work of the General
Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of
Belarus , prosecutor's offices of the regions and Minsk.
"A solution to the existing problem is possible only if the resources of the republican government bodies (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Ministry of
HEALTH, etc.) are effectively used, whose functions and tasks include issues providing social assistance to citizens, maintaining the housing stock in accordance with regulatory requirements, preventing chronic and other diseases,” the department explained.
