The HEAD of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations , Dmitry Golubev, told reporters about this , BELTA reports.
According to the head of the regional department, the past year was difficult and rescuers had a lot of work. “In 2023, 788 fires occurred in the region, 78% of the total number of which occurred in the residential sector,” he noted. “88 people died in the fire, 74 of whom were in a condition
ALCOHOL intoxication . Compared to 2022, there were 7.5% more fires, and the death toll increased by 14.3%. The main reasons include careless handling of fire, violation of the rules for the design and operation of heating equipment or electrical equipment. Due to children's pranks with fire, 25 fires were recorded compared to 13 in 2022."
Dmitry Golubev clarified that during emergencies, fires, accidents and disasters last year, 136 people were saved, 363 buildings and 55 pieces of equipment were prevented from being destroyed by fire.
" In winter, when it’s below zero outside, you want warmth and comfort, so for owners of private houses, heating their homes becomes the main task,” added the head of the regional department. - According to statistics, pensioners, who are usually single and living alone, are most affected by stove fires. In 2023, 41 pensioners died in fires. Don’t leave elderly parents and relatives unattended - go to them, help with housework, clear the paths and roof of snow, install autonomous fire detectors, check the serviceability of the wiring and stove, eliminate violations."
Dmitry Golubev paid special attention to prevention and, in particular, creating a culture of safe behavior among the younger generation. According to him, this is a priority and year-round area of work for the relevant department: rescuers are frequent guests in educational institutions, and
children are welcome visitors to various events and events of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The safety of residents of the Mogilev region is ensured by 23 emergency departments , rescuers are armed with about 400 units of basic and special equipment.In the structure of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the region, 9 specialized services have been created and operate: fire, search and diving and rescue, technical, chemical and radiation protection, gas and smoke protection, medical, psychological, communications service and alerts.
“This year, the authorities and units for emergency situations in Belarus are 25 years old,” emphasized Dmitry Golubev. “During this period, rescuers of the region eliminated more than 26 thousand fires and other emergencies, rescued and evacuated almost 11.4 thousand people during emergencies - one might say, the population of the regional center. Professionalism, fearlessness, comradely assistance and mutual assistance are the essence of the work of rescuers. And they withstand all tests with honor. The Mogilev Region Rescue Service is a powerful operational unit with modern technology, a good training base and qualified personnel."
