COURT has issued a verdict in a criminal case on torture. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent in the court.
According to the department, the accused, from December 2023 to November
2024 , while in a state of
intoxicated at his place of residence in Volkovysk, as well as in other places in the Volkovysk district, during sudden conflicts with his wife, systematically beat her, hitting her on various parts of the body, squeezing her neck.
The defendant did not admit guilt.
The court recognized the presence of a minor child in his care as a mitigating circumstance for the man . The court did not establish any aggravating circumstances. By the court's verdict, the accused was found guilty of systematic beatings that did not entail the consequences provided for in Articles 147, 149 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of
Belarus (torture). Based on Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to restriction of freedom without being sent to an open-type correctional facility for a period of 1 year, with a fine of 50 basic units, which is Br2.1 thousand. The sentence has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and contested in accordance with the procedure established by law.
