27 May, Gomel. Since the beginning of the year, 15 people have drowned in water bodies in the southeastern region. Such data were provided by the chief specialist of the Gomel regional organization of the water rescue society Sergei Kostyuchenko, BELTA reports.
According to statistics, 15 people have drowned in the region since the beginning of the year, the situation is at the level of the same period last year. "We can say without a doubt that the figure of 15 was influenced by weather conditions in the winter: there was no frost, and therefore no strong ice. The cause of most of the tragedies is falling into the water under various circumstances, including
HEALTH reasons. Most of the victims were in a state of
ALCOHOL intoxication . If
it were not for this evil, there would have been many times fewer fatalities," assured Sergey Kostyuchenko.
Since the beginning of the year, seven people have been saved, including one minor. "For comparison: last year, three were saved, including one child. Over half a thousand people were also warned, 66 of whom were minors. In essence, this is explanatory
work with those who violated safety rules and
requirements , but their actions were stopped. It is possible that some of them could well have led to some kind of accident," emphasized the chief specialist of the regional organization OSVOD.
The topic of child deaths is especially painful. "It is worth recalling that last year, eight minors drowned in reservoirs in the Gomel region. As a rule,
the children were left unattended. In addition, for the first time in recent years, two tragedies occurred when two children died at once. One such case occurred at the beginning of last summer in Zhlobin district, when two boys drowned, and in Kalinkovichi district, boys aged 8 and 11 - while fishing. Of course, the number eight itself is very large in this regard," noted Sergey Kostyuchenko.
OSVOD noted that in some cases, children died who came to visit someone - to their grandmother, other relatives, who did not always have the opportunity to look after the teenagers, given their mobility and interest in everything around them.
Work on preventing tragedies on the water will continue, especially the positions of interdepartmental cooperation will be strengthened in the summer.
