During the winter holidays, the police will take control of the leisure of minors, Dmitry Meleshko, deputy HEAD of the prevention department of the law enforcement and prevention department of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“Unfortunately, it must be noted that there is a slight increase in juvenile delinquency in the capital. This is primarily due to the growth of property crimes and illegal drug trafficking. For its part, the police are taking a number of additional measures to control adolescents and minors in places their concentration. On New Year's Eve and throughout the entire period of the winter holidays, additional outfits will be put up, service by district police officers of the Inspectorate for Juvenile Affairs will be organized. In the evening, at night, shopping centers, public and cultural institutions will be worked out. That is, we will take control of the leisure of minors" - said Dmitry Meleshko.
According to him, in the run-up to the holidays, from December 20 to 24, a number of preventive measures are being held in educational institutions: conversations, lectures, film lectures. "It explains to minors the responsibility that may arise for the use of narcotic drugs, the distribution of drugs, the drinking of alcoholic beverages and other offenses that can lead to trouble for parents and the teenager himself. In addition, additional control will be organized for families in which minors are due to neglect in an environment that poses a danger to their life or HEALTH, or that does not meet the requirements of their upbringing and maintenance," the deputy head said.
In addition, a number of events will be organized in cooperation with prevention stakeholders during the winter holidays. “These are all kinds of visits to various iconic social facilities of the city of Minsk, holding various sporting events, participation in the Our Children campaign. All teenagers will be involved to the maximum, primarily those who have already committed an offense or a crime,” Dmitry Meleshko added.
Law enforcement officers will also identify those places for tubing, sledding and skiing, which were formed spontaneously.
"I want to ask parents to pay attention to what their child lives. First of all, I'm talking about life on the Internet, about the sites that he visits. Monitor pages on VKontakte, phones, as there is certain content, programs related with the distribution of narcotic drugs. In case of detection, it is necessary to sound the alarm, up to contacting the internal affairs bodies," the deputy head emphasized. "Recently, cases have become more frequent when the so-called organizers of drug distribution work ask children to give their bank card details to transfer money to them. Therefore, I appeal to parents: if you have made such a card, transfer money to it, make sure that you have an SMS notification installed on your phone.So you can track not only the expenses of your children, but also the receipts of the amounts.
