February 22, MINSK. In Belarus, in 2022, the number of deaths from fires decreased by almost 7%, Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said at a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

"Particular attention is paid to the prevention of the death of citizens from external causes. In particular, the joint work of the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local authorities gave a certain positive effect last year. The number of fires decreased by almost 5%, and the number of citizens killed in them - by almost 7% "The main causes of fires are careless handling of fire, violation of the rules for operating electrical equipment and stove heating," Andrey Shved said. intoxicated , there were 756 fires, 381 of which killed people.

The results of prosecutorial inspections show that a significant number of fires and deaths in them are the result of formalism and the lack of proper interaction between local executive and administrative bodies and other subjects of prevention. "Based on the results of inspections on identified shortcomings in the organization of preventive work to prevent the death and injury of citizens as a result of fires, the Prosecutor General's Office informed the government three times with specific proposals to change the situation," he stressed.
