MINSK . The traffic police
action "Pedestrian" will be held in the Minsk region on July 27-31. BELTA was informed about this by the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
In order to prevent road traffic injuries and ensure the safety of vulnerable categories of road users, a preventive
campaign “Pedestrian” is being held in the Minsk region from July 27 to 31.
The action will include working out emergency areas of roads and streets in populated areas, unregulated pedestrian crossings where the risk of accidents involving pedestrians is increased. Road guards will pay attention to identifying violations by vulnerable road users, especially those who are on the road network at night without reflective elements, and especially those who are intoxicated. In addition, traffic police inspectors will monitor drivers’ compliance with the rules for driving through unregulated pedestrian crossings.
In the first six months
of 2024 , 68 accidents involving pedestrians occurred in the Minsk region, where 16 people were killed and 56 were injured. There were 24 accidents due to the fault of pedestrians themselves, in which eight people died and 16 were injured. Almost all accidents with fatal pedestrians occurred in the dark; many of the pedestrian road users were not marked with reflective elements.
During this period, employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate brought more than 3.4 thousand drivers to administrative responsibility for failure to allow pedestrians to pass. More than 16.1 thousand vulnerable road users were brought to administrative responsibility for violating traffic rules, of which more than 6.6 thousand were on the roadway without marking themselves with reflective elements, and more than 3.5 thousand were unable to
