Cases of the formation of empty shelves in commercial enterprises are associated with unreasonably increased mass demand.
This is the conclusion reached by the members of the headquarters for monitoring and responding to changes in the situation of food markets located on the territory of the Rostov region of the inspection trip, who made an inspection working trip to check the availability of basic food stocks at wholesale warehouse facilities and distribution centers of retail chains.
“For more than three weeks now, we have been monitoring the situation with the availability of food in an enhanced daily mode, regularly reviewing the situation at headquarters meetings and other meetings in the government,” said Viktor Goncharov, First Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region. - I want to immediately note that the Rostov region fully provides itself with almost all the main types of food. In general, in 2021, agricultural production increased by 7.4%. The volume of agricultural production, according to statistics, exceeded 432 billion rubles. Now the spring sowing campaign and the laying of the future crop are starting in the region. To date, there are sufficient reserves of raw materials and food in the region. Commodity stocks of retail facilities in the Rostov region are regularly replenished,
Thus, according to the Consumer Market Department, in recent days there has been an increased demand for granulated SUGAR and some other products with a long shelf life and a low price category. A similar situation in the consumer market is recorded in almost all subjects of RUSSIA.
“Today we visited the wholesale warehouse and distribution centers of retail chains, which noted and showed that their stocks are regularly replenished,” Viktor Gocharov emphasized. “However, due to increased demand, there are difficulties with the pace of product preparation, since demand for sugar is last week grew by almost nine times. At the same time, the stock of sugar in a wholesale warehouse, for example, is at the level of 50 days and is regularly replenished; in the distribution centers of trade facilities, sugar stocks in wholesale organizations are kept at the level of seven days. Therefore, cases of the formation of empty shelves in commercial enterprises are mainly associated with unreasonably increased mass demand.
As noted by the trade organizations themselves, a similar situation developed 2 years ago. In the spring of 2020, there were also sudden surges in demand for various goods, such as buckwheat, toilet paper, chilled chicken MEAT, etc. Therefore, the “washout” of granulated sugar is caused by a sharp increase in the demand of citizens in excess of their daily needs.
“We have increased deliveries to regional stores and local chains, with federal chains there is no way to quickly increase volumes, because it takes about two weeks from the application to the execution of the contract, so it’s not possible to quickly increase the volume of deliveries with such excessive demand,” noted HEAD of the wholesale organization "Osnova" Yuri Bondarev. “But at the same time, we have already increased our packaging and shipping capacities to all the stores we have worked with before. I am sure that the situation with sugar supplies will improve in the coming weeks.”
The department of the consumer market of the Rostov region also urges the population not to panic and at the same time not to increase the unreasonable rush demand for food and other goods.
