The development potential of this market is huge: in the Russian Federation there are only about 700 thousand goats and only 11 breeding farms; there is practically no competition, the sphere is only being formed.
In the Vologda Oblast, only in the last fifteen years, new farms have been created, breeding animals are being imported, the conditions for keeping animals on farms of a new type and breed productivity indicators are being determined, and the minimum requirements for MILK are being assessed.
The theme of the development of goat and sheep breeding was the subject of a seminar held at the Vologda Information and Consulting Center of the Agro-Industrial Complex with the participation of scientific institutions in Moscow and Vologda. The best and advanced practices of farms in RUSSIA and the Vologda Oblast, the characteristics of the breeds and the qualitative composition of milk, the practical experience of breeding and keeping the Saanen goat breed of the Vologda Oblast, farmers learned this and much more.
Alexander Mekhanikov, the HEAD of the peasant farm, has a successful experience in breeding the Romanov breed of sheep for more than 20 years in the region. The farm has more than 300 purebred sheep purchased from breeding farms in the Yaroslavl region. Young sheep from the peasant farm Mekhanikova A.A. has proven itself well both in our area and beyond. The number of young sheep for breeding is also purchased by foreign countries, for example, Uzbekistan. In 2019, the Head of the KFH Mekhanikov A.A. with his pets was awarded the gold medal of the agro-industrial exhibition "Golden Autumn" and a diploma "For high achievements in the development of livestock breeding." In the near future, the farmer plans to reconstruct the existing premises or build a new facility for growing and breeding Romanov sheep up to 700 heads.
Sabir Zeynalov, a farmer from the Syamzhensky district, has a good experience in sheep breeding, who back in 2014 received a grant for the development of a family livestock farm of more than three million rubles for the purchase of an MTZ tractor, the construction of a farm and the purchase of 100 sheep.
“Our region provides itself with MEAT of all categories by only 34%, so it is necessary to develop such livestock sectors as goat and sheep breeding. - said the head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Resources Sergey Poromonov. - The Department of Agriculture and Food Resources is ready to support beginners and successfully mastering this area of ​​farmers by presenting grants under the Agrostartup and Family Farm programs.
Within the framework of the seminar, a tasting of eight cheeses from sheep and goat milk was organized, presented by the leading farms of the Moscow Region and the Stavropol Territory. The tasting participants noted the quality of the cheeses, but gave priority to the classic ones.
