The annual regional Field Day was held in the village. Vostochnoye of the Khabarovsk District of the Khabarovsk Territory on the territory of the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture.
During the seminar-meeting, they discussed the expansion of the set of varieties of oilseeds and fodder crops for the regional animal husbandry. Breeding new varieties of fodder crops is an important component of food safety and compliance with the regulations of regional and federal authorities.
“Today, the Khabarovsk Territory faces large-scale tasks to strengthen domestic food security and increase EXPORT potential. Therefore, holding such events as the Field Day, which allows sharing the latest achievements in the field of agricultural production, is especially relevant,” said Pavel Storozhuk, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Khabarovsk Territory.
Soybean crops of various varieties were demonstrated on the experimental fields. According to experts, it is this culture that is well adapted to the difficult Far Eastern climate. One of the most successful was the Khabarovsk jubilee variety, released in 2022 and already certified. Its distinguishing feature is its high yield, more than 5 tons per hectare.
Research Institute employees demonstrated the results of many years of selection - corn of the world variety 22, resistant to our conditions. In addition, scientists select 6 varieties of tomatoes and 8 varieties of cucumbers, planted 30 varieties of tomatoes from other regions to test their resistance to the local climate.
Field experiments also allow in practice to evaluate the effectiveness of certain methods of weed control. Only the right combination of them protects the crop, while not harming the environment.
