The Belgorod region belongs to the number of low-water regions of RUSSIA, however, the fish farming industry is intensively developing here. The performance of the industry is increasing every year.
The volume of commercial fish and fry grown in 2021 amounted to 11,901.6 tons, which is almost 900 tons higher than in 2020. In total, 8131.6 tons of marketable fish and 3770 tons of fry were produced.
The main direction of the fish farming industry in the region is pond aquaculture, which is carried out by 62 farms. The enterprises mainly grow carp, silver carp and grass carp.
In addition, there are 17 industrial-type enterprises that produce trout, sturgeon, catfish, paddlefish and bester.
In recent years, fish farming has received a new impetus for development thanks to the programs of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture for the development of agricultural cooperation. Today, there are 19 cooperatives in the industry, of which 11 are engaged in the production of pond fish, 2 in the cultivation of industrial aquaculture, and 6 in fish processing.
