Agricultural organizations of the Trans-Baikal Territory have started a breeding campaign in sheep breeding. More than 133,000 sheep have been prepared to produce offspring, said Denis Bochkarev, Minister of Agriculture of the region.

“In total, 391 breeding flocks have been formed in the farms. At the beginning of the breeding campaign in Transbaikalia there were 133.6 thousand heads of ewes. 2.7 thousand rams-producers have been prepared for an important technological event. To date, 1.7 thousand sheep have been bred in the Kyrinsky, Priargunsky, Nerchinsky, Gazimuro-Zavodsky districts,” said the HEAD of the agricultural department.

According to him, in those agricultural enterprises that traditionally start the breeding campaign at a later date, the preparation of ewes and rearings for an important event continues.

“Cattle breeders carry out work on beating and forming flocks of lambs, as well as culling sheep by age. In farms that use artificial insemination, sires are pumped out for semen pumping - in total, about 40 thousand sheep will be fertilized in the region by this method,” Denis Bochkarev specified.

He noted that, in general, in the region, the sheep entered mating well-fed and are now grazing. When low temperatures are established, enhanced feeding will be organized for animals, grain fodder will be allocated.

it is planned to complete the random campaign in the Trans-Baikal Territory by mid-December. Sheep breeders will receive the first lambs in early March 2022.
