Since October last year and to this day, livestock breeders of the Stavropol Territory have been conducting a responsible campaign - the wintering of social cattle. In general, during this period, all categories of farms in the region, 288 thousand heads of cattle and 1.4 million heads of small ruminants were included in this work.
“Successful wintering directly affects the indicators of livestock production in the future,” said Alexei Krisan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory. “In this matter, it is important to pay close attention to creating comfortable conditions for livestock, to create stocks of feed necessary for a balanced diet, but also to constantly monitor the condition of cattle and small cattle.”
So in the Blagodarnensky district, the HEAD of the agricultural department, Viktor Sokolov, together with specialists, checked the progress of the wintering of livestock and preparations for the lambing campaign, visiting Kamennobalkovskoye CJSC, which specializes in breeding breeding sheep.
There, 6 thousand heads of sheep entered the wintering, including 2.7 thousand heads of ewes. For these purposes, more than 1.5 thousand tons of hay, 500 tons of straw, 300 tons of haylage, more than 600 tons of concentrated feed were prepared in advance.
It is planned that the lambing campaign on the farm will begin in the second decade of February. Feed is available in full and was brought to the wintering grounds, premises and equipment were prepared, veterinary measures were carried out in a timely manner in accordance with the plan of veterinary and preventive measures. The livestock has an average and above-average fatness.
In the Shpakovsky district, livestock breeders also responsibly treated both the course of wintering and its implementation. Wintering included 6 agricultural enterprises and 30 peasant (farm) households, with a population of 6 thousand cattle and 4 thousand heads of small cattle. To control the course of the campaign, the monitoring was carried out by the head of the agricultural department and the chairman of the K (F) X association, who went to farms and livestock breeding points to personally see the state of the livestock.
It can be said with confidence that all farms have created conditions for keeping animals warm, full, ensuring the development of dairy and MEAT production during several cold months. The provision of feed is 120% or 27 centners of feed units per head.
In the Ipatovsky district, the specialists of the agricultural department checked the progress of wintering in the SPK "Plemzavod Vtoraya Pyatiletka", where 1697 head of cattle and more than 12 thousand sheep entered the campaign. Several teams of shepherds received a good assessment of their work, and this is no coincidence, because most of the workers of the breeding farm have devoted more than one decade to the industry, having perfectly studied the features of any campaign, which is confirmed every year by well-deserved awards.
“We pay great attention to the quantity and especially the quality of the harvested feed. We know that the fate of animal husbandry in the winter depends on the correct solution of this issue. For this wintering, 0.9 thousand tons of fodder, 5.4 thousand tons of hay, 2.03 thousand tons of straw, 6.5 thousand tons of haylage, 8.7 thousand tons of silage were harvested, which amounted to 152% of planned,” said Igor Serdyukov, chairman of the SPK “Plemzavod Second Pyatiletka”.
Preparations are underway for the upcoming window company.
In the Georgievsky district, the head of the department of agriculture, Sergey Gvozdetsky, and specialists from the department of agriculture and the SICC, during a working trip to LLC SHP Urozhaynoye, visited a livestock point. The current wintering of cattle there takes place in the usual regular mode.
Currently, 555 sheep winter at the livestock point, including 300 ewes and 97 cattle.
On the farm, all the livestock is good, the livestock is clean and well-fed: more than 60% of the cattle population is above average fatness, about 40% is average fatness. Small cattle - medium fatness.
Successful wintering of livestock requires the master's care for its proper maintenance. In preparation for wintering, the livestock breeders put in order the premises for the reception of young animals - they insulated, placed shields, brought in straw for bedding, and disinfected the premises and bases.
There are no problems with the food base at the point. In total, 720 tons of hay, 250 tons of straw (wheat, barley), 500 tons of grain fodder (wheat, barley, peas, corn) were harvested on the farm for the wintering period. This season, 29.2 centners of fodder units were harvested for one conditional head, which is 3 centners more than last year. Feed is annually examined for quality at the Prikumskaya CAC. In addition, various mineral supplements and SALT are used in feeding, which are purchased as needed. Water supply to the farm is carried out regularly.
“The wintering of livestock is always a crucial season, a serious test for livestock breeders. And today our main task is to create the proper conditions for keeping the animals warm and full, to ensure the safety and productivity of the livestock, - Sergey Gvozdetsky emphasized. “We see that the management of Urozhaynoye SHP LLC is taking all measures to carry out this campaign in the best possible way.”
This month, an important campaign for livestock breeders will begin - the calving of cows and the lambing of ewes, and it will last until the end of March. Specialists carried out fortification of the breeding stock of sheep, which will reduce the percentage of dry animals to a minimum.
