The Stavropol Territory is one of the three leaders in the production of wool in the Russian Federation.
This year, the livestock breeders of the region have already started a mass shearing campaign. Agricultural commodity producers of the region plan to produce about 5 thousand tons, including 4 thousand tons of fine-wool and semi-fine-fleece (80%). This year it is necessary to shear 1.2 million sheep.
So, for example, in the village of Bogdanovka, Stepnovsky district, sheep breeder Shamkhal Ramzanov continues the work of his father for about 15 years. In his farm, they decided to shear the sheep promptly, so they were among the first in the region to enter the shearing campaign.
“We shear about a hundred heads a day, and there are more than 500 of them on my farm. After all the work is done, we will send the livestock for processing, then for grazing,” said Shamkhal Ramzanov, HEAD of K (F) Kh.
The farm produces, as a rule, semi-fine wool, an average of 3-3.5 kg of wool from one merino, which, as you know, is famous for the Stavropol region.
To date, about 60 thousand heads of sheep have already been sheared in the agricultural organizations of the region, 228 tons of wool have been obtained (the average shear is 3.8 kg per head).
For the planned development of the sub-sector, measures of state support are provided.
“Every year, for the development of sheep breeding, funds are allocated from the federal and regional budgets to subsidize part of the costs of supporting the production of wool obtained from fine-fleeced and semi-fine-fleeced sheep breeds that sell such products to processing organizations located on the territory of the Russian Federation. In 2022, about 100 million rubles are provided for these purposes. This measure of state support will allow agricultural producers to compensate up to 20% of the costs,” said Viktor Fetisov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
It should be noted that Stavropol wool is in demand not only throughout RUSSIA, but also abroad. More than 3 thousand tons of wool are exported annually to CHINA , India, the Republic of Belarus.
