In the region, it is planned to remove the fleece from 700 thousand heads of sheep and get about 2.7 thousand tons of marketable wool in agricultural enterprises and K (F) Kh.
More than 15 processing organizations of the country are engaged in primary processing and harvesting of Stavropol wool. Breeding farms of the Stavropol region breed 5 fine-fleeced breeds: Stavropol, Caucasian, Soviet, Manych and Dzhalginsky merinos, as well as 2 semi-fine-fleeced breeds - North Caucasian meat-wool and Tashlin.
Labor-intensive work has already begun in three agricultural enterprises of the Levokumsky district. About 30,000 sheep will be sheared at OOO Novourozhaynenskoye, OOO Ovtsevod, and SPK Vladimirovsky. Livestock breeders have already received more than 14 tons of wool, about 4 thousand sheep have been sheared. On average, the wool sheared from one HEAD in farms is 3.5 kg of wool.
“All the necessary work has been carried out to carry out the shearing campaign – shearing points have been processed, equipment and inventory of shearing points have been purchased and repaired,” said Aleksey Grinko, head of the agricultural department of the Levokumsky municipal district.
It should be noted that the region is one of the three regions of the country in terms of wool production. And the development of this industry is one of the priority areas in the region, designated by Governor Vladimir Vladimirov. The agro-industrial complex is faced with the task of increasing wool production in the short term to 5,000 tons. The issues of production and EXPORT of sheep products in RUSSIA, the realization of the genetic potential of new breed resources, the provision of Russian enterprises of the light and textile industries with wool raw materials, new breeding achievements in sheep breeding are being addressed. To achieve their goals, producers annually receive state support for the production and sale of fine and
 semi-fine wool.
“For the development of sheep breeding from the federal and regional budgets, funds are allocated for a subsidy to reimburse part of the costs of supporting the production of wool obtained from fine-fleeced and semi-fine-fleeced sheep breeds that sell such products to processing organizations located on the territory of the Russian Federation. In 2023, about 95 million rubles are provided for these purposes. This measure of state support will make it possible to compensate agricultural producers up to 20% of the costs, - said Viktor Fetisov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
It should be noted that Stavropol wool is in demand not only throughout Russia, but also abroad. More than 3 thousand tons of wool are exported annually to CHINA , India, the Republic of Belarus .
