The first harvest of strawberries was harvested in the Stavropol Territory

Strawberries have ripened in the farms of the Stavropol Territory. The first two centners of fragrant berries were harvested in the Kochubeevsky district.
“The berries are harvested when they turn completely red, earlier - you can’t pick them. This year we plan to harvest about 10 tons of crops!” - shares the farmer KFH Kachanov Victor.
Stavropol agrarians are trying to select such varieties of strawberries that have the highest degree of return in the region and produce tasty and fragrant berries as early as possible. These parameters correspond to the strawberries of the Clery, Aromas, Korona varieties, which bear the first fruits already at the end of May.
In total, nine enterprises are engaged in the cultivation of strawberries in the Stavropol Territory, of which three are peasant farms. The maximum area of ​​culture is concentrated in the SPK "Sovetsky" of the Kirov urban district - 27 hectares. Slightly less area in the Trunovsky district - 22 hectares and SPH "Voskhod" of the Kirov urban district - 14.5 hectares. Also in the Georgievsky urban district there are a number of farms in which 10 hectares of sweet berries are grown - LLC Novozavedenskoye, SPK Nezloblensky.
The same farms are engaged in the production of planting material. In 2022, about 2.5 million strawberry bushes were grown. Thus, the edge completely provides itself with planting material.
“The development of berry growing in the Stavropol Territory is one of the strategic tasks of the agro-industrial complex. The total area of ​​berry plantations in the region is more than 133 hectares. This year, the budget provides for 6.0 million rubles to reimburse part of the costs associated with planting and (or) caring for berry crops,” said Elena Tambovtseva, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
The regional governor Vladimir Vladimirov supports the development of berry growing in the region. Thanks to the support measures provided, last year 24.7 hectares of strawberry laying and 30.40 hectares of care work were subsidized, which made it possible to compensate for 73% of the costs of agricultural producers.
