During the holidays, agricultural enterprises and farmers in the southern regions of the Rostov region began spring field work, winter crops are actively fed, and the first 2.7 thousand hectares were sown with spring crops. This was announced by the first deputy governor of the Rostov region Viktor Goncharov at a meeting in the Don government.
“Last week, the governor just symbolically launched the spring crop work, opening the Agro-Industrial Forum of the South of RUSSIA, and we see that the farms of the southern regions are already feeding winter crops,” Viktor Goncharov noted. - As we remember, last year we managed to achieve good results - 13.7 million tons of grain were harvested, this is a historical record for the Don. In sunflower production, we took first place in the country, having collected about 2 million tons. As for the future harvest, I want to note that for the 2022 harvest, the areas of winter wheat were increased.”
So, last fall, 2.9 million hectares of winter crops were sown (2.8 in 2020). To date, more than 98% of winter crops have sprouted.
“Today we are faced with the task of preserving winter crops in the spring and taking measures to obtain a high yield,” the first deputy HEAD of the region emphasized. “Last weekends and holidays, Don agrarians intensified work on feeding winter crops, today 585 thousand hectares, or 20% of the planned area, have already been fed.”
In addition, several farms in the Salsky, Yegorlyksky Orlovsky, Zimovnikovsky districts conducted a trial sowing of spring crops. According to the data of the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food, about 2.7 thousand hectares have already been sown, of which more than a thousand hectares - grain, about 700 thousand fodder and industrial crops.
In general, farmers will have to sow about 1.8 million hectares of spring crops (in 2021 - 1.7), including about 700 thousand hectares of cereals and legumes, about 980 thousand hectares of oilseeds, and 16.5 million hectares of SUGAR beet thousand hectares, fodder crops - more than 175 thousand hectares.
According to official data, 88,000 tons of seeds have already been procured for spring sowing in Don farms, which is about 92% of the need. Also, 442.2 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers in the physical substance were harvested for spring field work, which is 70% of the need. The purchase of seeds and fertilizers continues.
At the meeting, it was also noted that the preparation of farmers for spring field work is facilitated by the mechanism of preferential short-term lending. The Government of the Russian Federation will allocate an additional 25 billion rubles, and thanks to such financing, agricultural producers will be able to attract short-term loans at a preferential rate for a total amount of more than 150 billion rubles this year.
