Don veterinarians showed professional skills at interregional exercises

In the Oktyabrsky district of the Rostov region, interregional special exercises were held to localize a conditional epizootic focus of anthrax. The purpose of the exercises is to maintain constant readiness for prompt response in the event of an unfavorable epizootic situation.
The training was attended by veterinary specialists of the Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh regions, Krasnodar Territory, LPR, DPR, teachers of the Don State Agrarian University, representatives of the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR, Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Rostov Region, the administration of the Oktyabrsky District, employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the police.
In total, about 80 specialists from various departments and regions took part in the training.
Dmitry Kutovoi, Deputy HEAD of the Veterinary Department of the Rostov Region, led the exercises. The organization and methodological guidance of the event was carried out by the Acting DIRECTOR of the Rostov Regional Station for the Control of Animal Diseases Alexei Vasiliev.
The special guest of the exercises was the Honored Veterinary DOCTOR of RUSSIA Vasily Seliverstov, who is the author of the development, development of industrial production and introduction into wide practice of a highly effective anthrax vaccine.
Speaking at the opening of the event, the scientist noted that it is necessary to have well-established diagnostics and reliable means of protection, as well as specialists who are ready to implement a set of diagnostic and protective measures.
The theoretical part of the exercises took place in the main building of the Don State Agrarian University, the practical part - in the Donskoy educational farm. According to the legend of the exercises, there was a death of three heads of cattle , another four animals have an increase in body temperature, muscle tremors, the formation of hot swelling on the body, swelling in the dewlap, neck and abdomen. Also, according to legend, shortly before the incident, the educational farm sold 10 heads of small cattle to a sheep breeding enterprise in the Volgograd region.
“To achieve the set goal, the veterinary service requires quick prompt decision-making, well-coordinated workof all services and departments, in order to stop the outbreaks of the disease in a timely manner, prevent the spread of infection and minimize risks for the population,” Alexey Vasilyev emphasized.
Consistently, starting from the moment information about a suspected disease was received, the participants of the training event conducted a clinical examination of susceptible animals, determined the boundaries of the alleged epizootic focus, selected biological and pathological material for research, disinfected and other necessary measures. We also paid attention to the inter-subject interaction of veterinary services, in particular, the discussion and development of an action plan in the Volgograd region.
It should be noted that throughout the history of veterinary medicine, anthrax remains a constant object of close attention. The most effective method of prevention is vaccination . Thanks to her, not a single case of anthrax has been registered on the Don since 2014.
Just now, veterinarians are vaccinating farm animals as part of mass veterinary treatments for livestock. In total, more than 340,000 animals have been vaccinated against anthrax since the beginning of 2023. These are 225 thousand heads of cattle , 113 thousand heads of small cattle, about 2000 horses, as well as deer, pigs and camels.
Veterinarians ask owners to provide animals for examination and vaccination, strictly fulfill their duties to ensure the welfare of their farms, as well as immediately notify veterinary specialists of all cases of sudden death or mass disease of livestock.
