On the Don, an annual campaign for acaricidal treatment of farm animals has started: the corresponding order was signed by the HEAD of the veterinary department of the Rostov region Alexander Kruglikov. Cattle and premises for animals in farms of all forms of ownership are subject to processing.
Anti-tick treatments are carried out by veterinarians every year. With the onset of heat and until the first cold weather, animals are regularly sprayed with special means to prevent insect and arachnid bites.
So, in 2022, specialists from the state veterinary service of the Rostov region conducted more than 3 million 340 thousand acaricidal head treatments of animals. These are 1 million 610 thousand heads of cattle, 1 million 422 thousand heads of small cattle, 303 thousand heads of pigs, and more than 5 thousand heads of horses.
In our climate, the peak of parasitism of ixodid ticks falls on April-June. Therefore, taking into account weather conditions, including ambient temperature, the Don veterinarians plan to complete the primary processing of livestock in 2023 by April 11. Further, the procedure will be repeated taking into account the duration of the drugs. Grazing of farm animals that have not undergone anti-tick treatment is prohibited.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine reminds that pets should also be treated for ticks. This responsibility lies with their owners. Moreover, anti-tick treatment should be carried out even if the pet does not leave the apartment, since the owners or guests of the house can bring parasites from the street into the house.
