Russian physicist Alexey Kavokin could not publish an article in the British scientific journal Nature until he removed the mention that he works at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).

Kavokin, who holds the position of DIRECTOR of the International Center for Theoretical Physics at MIPT, told TASS about this .

According to Kavokin, his work was recently accepted for publication in Nature Physics, but to do so he had to remove his MIPT affiliation (mention of his affiliation with the institute. — ).

"The article was eventually published, but I had to remove the mention of MIPT and take advantage of the fact that at that time I still had a "Chinese" affiliation," the scientist said. The editor wrote to the physicist at the "very last moment" that otherwise the article would not be published.

Similar situations happen to other domestic researchers, Kavokin noted. These include the case of Skoltech professor Artem Oganov. Due to sanctions from the International Geological Union, he had to refuse to give a lecture at the International Geological Congress.

In November 2021, the US Department of Commerce added MIPT to the sanctions list. The reason for imposing sanctions on the institute was the development of military products for a military customer.

Then, in addition to MIPT, companies from CHINA and Pakistan were included in the list. MIPT Rector Dmitry Livanov told RBC that he was surprised by such a move on the part of the United States. According to him, many commercial and government structures both in RUSSIA and abroad are among the customers of MIPT research and applied developments.
