RUSSIA calls on the European Union to stop attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of UN member states, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Her comment was published on the ministry's website.

“We call on the European Union to stop attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign UN member states. Start building interaction with all members of the international community on the basis of equality and mutual respect,” Zakharova said.

She also added that the European Union should abandon all unilateral restrictive measures that do not comply with international law.

According to a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, the organization is imposing sanctions because it does not want to recognize the right of African and Middle Eastern countries to the services of private military companies. With this, the EU calls into question the sovereign right of UN members to build an independent domestic and foreign policy, she said.
