“There are reports from Washington about the preparation of a new package of sanctions against our country. Nord Stream 2, as presented by local officials, is linked to Navalny. Our logical response has always followed the illegal actions of the United States, ”Zakharova said.

She also criticized the fact that the United States decided to “link” an economic project involving “private operators and independent states” with opposition leader Alexei Navalny. According to a representative of the Foreign Ministry, "all the fuss around the imaginary poisoning" is needed by the United States "as a tool for solving the problems of its own lack of competitiveness."

The fact that the United States is preparing a new package of sanctions in connection with the poisoning of Navalny, as well as against Russian companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, was previously announced by US national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

According to him, after taking office as President of the United States, Joe Biden said that he plans to impose sanctions on Russian companies involved in the construction of the pipeline every 90 days. “He [Biden] has done it and will continue to do so,” Sullivan said. The adviser added that the sanctions would not affect foreign companies involved in the project.
