Lavrov will not attend the session of the UN Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. The visit was canceled due to a ban on the minister's plane over a number of EU countries.

The visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the session of the UN Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament was canceled due to the ban on the flight of his aircraft in the airspace of a number of European countries, according to the Russian permanent mission in Geneva on Twitter.

“Lavrov’s visit to Geneva for the session of the UNHRC and the Conference on Disarmament was canceled due to unprecedented restrictions on the flight of his aircraft in the airspace of a number of EU countries that have imposed anti-Russian sanctions,” the message says.

Lavrov's visit was scheduled for March 1. On Tuesday morning, he was scheduled to speak at the 49th session of the UNHRC.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier that the UN would not be able to ensure the visit of the Russian delegation to Geneva. According to her, the organization noted that the meeting participants need to “draw up some documents that the EU countries will now come up with for those aircraft that fell under sanctions.”
