The system of interbank payments SWIFT does not intend to disconnect Russia from its services. This was stated by the executive DIRECTOR of the Russian National Association SWIFT (Rosswift) Roman Chernov, speaking at a round table in the State Duma, TASS reports.
“We are not going to be cut off from SWIFT. It doesn't benefit anyone. This does absolutely nothing from the point of view of the national payment system, because in 2014 the Bank of Russia developed a system for transmitting financial messages and thereby cooled the ardor of hotheads talking about the country's disconnection from SWIFT,” Chernov said.
According to him, disconnecting the country from the system of interbank payments is also unprofitable from the point of view of external interaction, since Russia is a major international trade partner. In addition, Chernov pointed out that when disconnected from SWIFT, the United States, which owns Russia's public debt, will not be able to receive payments.
The HEAD of VTB called Russia's disconnection from SWIFT unrealistic
The first deputy chairman of the Central Bank, Olga Skorobogatova, also said during the round table that the regulator does not yet see the risks of a possible disconnection of Russia from the payment system.
