Under the conditions of Western sanctions, Russia urgently needs to ban the EXPORT of children born by surrogate mothers from the country. This was stated by the head of the Patriarchal Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church on Family Issues Fyodor Lukyanov at a meeting of the expert council under the State Duma Committee on Family Issues.
“Today, against the backdrop of an open economic and information blockade declared on our country, the legally permitted export of children from Russia, born by surrogate mothers, is perplexing. Simple logic tells us that the adoption of such a ban is a necessary measure, including as a response to sanctions,” he said (quoted by Interfax).
He explained that this is not about a big law regulating the sphere of surrogate motherhood, but about urgent measures necessary, according to him, to prevent the export of children with unknown goals and consequences.
The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church recalled that the bill was prepared and submitted to the Duma by the Committee on Security and Combating Corruption, but today, according to the priest, this document "faces attempts to prevent its consideration by deputies."
“All criminal cases, as well as facts that have recently become public, indicate the need for a speedy ban on surrogate motherhood for foreign citizens. Thousands of children are taken out annually under surrogate motherhood programs, and, in my opinion, only people who do not associate themselves with Russia and its future can prevent the adoption of this bill in the corridors of power,” the head of the patriarchal commission believes.
