In relations between RUSSIA and Japan, there are signs of deterioration, Gennady Ovechko, deputy HEAD of the diplomatic mission in Tokyo, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“We not only do not see positive changes in the openly unfriendly course of the administration, but we also note a trend towards further deterioration of the situation,” he said.
Ovechko noted that the Japanese side imposed sanctions against the Russians (these are mainly politicians and officials), interrupted contacts in a number of areas, froze the Central Bank's gold and foreign exchange reserves , limited investments and imposed a ban on the EXPORT and import of a wide range of goods, and expelled diplomats. At the same time, bilateral cultural projects are still being implemented.
Tokyo imposed sanctions against Moscow even before the start of the Russian special operation, after the decision to recognize the DNR and LNR. Subsequently, he repeatedly tightened the restrictions. Thus, investments in the country were banned, exports were limited, and the preferential treatment in trade was withdrawn.
In early June, Japan decided to ban the export to Russia of products that “help strengthen the industrial infrastructure”: steel tanks, conveyors, dump trucks, bulldozers, looms and more. Since February, it has banned the export to Russia of vaccines, medical equipment and robots, and since April - steel and aluminum products, aircraft, toys and photographic equipment.
Tokyo imposed personal sanctions against some Russians. In particular, the list of sanctioned persons included Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Russia, philosopher Alexander Dugin, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Kalashnikov Concern Alan Lushnikov and others.
