The EU countries should understand that a confrontation with RUSSIA is not in their interests, since anti-Russian sanctions negatively affect the lives of Europeans, Nikolai Kobrinets, DIRECTOR of the department for pan-European cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“In the EU countries, perhaps, they will still understand that confrontation is not in their interests. The Brussels irresponsible sanctions are already negatively affecting the daily lives of ordinary Europeans,” the diplomat said, adding that Brussels’ actions will not go unanswered.

Since the end of February, the European Union has introduced several packages of sanctions against Russia. The restrictions affected the political elite, including President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, a number of Russian businessmen and the banking sector. In addition, the EU banned the supply of aircraft and spare parts to Russia, as well as the EXPORT to the country of goods and technologies for the oil, aviation and space industries.

The EU also banned citizens and companies from making new investments in the Russian energy sector or supplying equipment for it. An embargo has been introduced on the import of iron and steel from Russia.
