The European Council instructed to prepare options for new restrictive measures against RUSSIA in the near future. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
“The European Council has instructed the European Commission and me to present options for additional restrictive measures that should be ready in case Russia continues to violate international law in our member states and in the neighborhood,” he said.
Work will also be carried out to maintain unity within the EU, which is a serious advantage when interacting with Moscow, Borrell added.
The European Union extended sanctions against Russia because of Ukraine Politics
He stressed that such measures are connected with the political course of the Russian government, and not with the Russian people, so the European Union intends to strengthen contacts between people.
European Council President Charles Michel announced on June 25 that the European Union extended the economic sanctions against Russia, imposed in 2014 against the backdrop of the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbass.
These included sectoral sanctions targeting Russia's energy, financial and defense industries, which ban companies from accessing European capital markets, exporting and importing arms and dual-use goods, and trading in oil production technologies.
