In 2021, the main trading partner of RUSSIA was the European Union, all of whose countries were on the list of unfriendly countries. Second place is CHINA,followed by the CIS countries

Russia's trade turnover with countries that did not support Western sanctions in 2021 amounted to $359.8 billion, or about 45.8% of all foreign trade: 44.2% of total exports and 48.6% of imports, analysts of the international audit consulting network FinExpertiza based on data from the Federal Customs Service (FCS). Thus, more than half of the trade turnover fell on countries that the Russian authorities declared unfriendly due to the imposition of sanctions.

“Compared to the “pre-Crimean” period, this share has grown by almost one and a half times,” the study says.

Its authors found out that before the new round of exacerbation of geopolitical tensions, Russia's main partner was traditionally the European Union. In 2021, it accounted for 36% of the total foreign trade turnover ($282 billion): 38.3% of Russian exports and 32% of imports. All EU countries were included in the list of unfriendly states that supported sanctions against Russia.

The second largest partner turned out to be China, which continued economic cooperation with Russia. Its share in the Russian trade turnover was 17.9% ($140.7 billion): 13.8% of all exports and 24.8% of imports.
