A federal court in New York has issued arrest warrants for two planes linked by US authorities to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, BLOOMBERG reported.
The orders concern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and Gulfstream G650ER aircraft. The American authorities estimate their cost at more than $400 million (24.6 billion rubles at the current exchange rate). As FORBES wrote in December, the Dreamliner has become the most expensive private jet in Russia, and there are only 250 such aircraft in the world.
The United States believes that both aircraft were delivered to Russia in March in violation of US export restrictions imposed after the start of a special operation in Ukraine. According to the FBI, Boeing has been in Dubai since March, while Gulfstream is still in Moscow. Both aircraft, according to the testimony of one of the FBI agents, were controlled through shell companies, reports CNBC.
RBC sent a request to Abramovich's representative.
Abramovich challenged in the EU court the decision to impose sanctions against him Politics
Abramovich came under EU sanctions in mid-March. The EU authorities called him "a Russian oligarch with long and close ties to Vladimir Putin" and noted that these ties helped him "preserve capital." The rationale also stated that Abramovich was a key shareholder in the Evraz steel and mining company and that the company was one of the largest taxpayers in Russia.
The sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes. The businessman did not agree with the EU decision and decided to challenge it in the European court.

In March, the US Department of Commerce banned 100 commercial and private aircraft, including Abramovich's aircraft.
