The United States will impose new sanctions against RUSSIA due to military actions in Ukraine , USA Today reports, citing a senior American official.
The blacklist will include 70 organizations that EXPORT from the United States, as well as more than 300 individuals and legal entities, ships and aircraft. According to the official, the measures will be aimed at curbing the circumvention of existing restrictions and the actions of "financial intermediaries" in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The official did not provide further details, but promised that the measures would be "substantial". According to him, Washington remains committed to "tightening the screws" against Russia for the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
The Times clarifies that the new package will be officially announced on Friday, May 19, at the G7 summit in Hiroshima. At the same time, the association will publish a statement of solidarity with Ukraine. The newspaper, citing a representative of the American administration, reports that other members of the G7 are preparing their own restrictive measures against Moscow and the United States is working to bring its sanctions in line with those imposed by the EU and the UK .
Although the official declined to name specific individuals who are subject to the upcoming sanctions, the South CHINA Morning Post believes that Chinese companies are at risk of restrictions due to the increased level of cooperation with Moscow. The administration of President Joe Biden has repeatedly stated that they see no evidence that Beijing is providing Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine (the Chinese authorities have also repeatedly denied these allegations), while at the same time, the growth of Russian energy exports to China helped boost the country's economy, writes the publication.
The European Union is working on its own package of sanctions, which will focus on circumventing the introduced measures. According to the HEAD of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, we are talking, in particular, about a ban on the transit of European goods through Russia to third countries and on the export of goods to those states that can supply sanctioned products to Russia.
