The US Department of Commerce has extended EXPORT restrictions on Aeroflot by 180 days. The ruling was published in the electronic database of the Federal Register, it was signed by Assistant Secretary of Commerce Matthew Axelrod. The document will come into force on April 3.

A request to renew the order on temporary denial of export privileges was received on March 7 from the Bureau of Industry and Security (part of the Ministry of Commerce). “The written request was submitted more than 20 days before the expiration of the order. A copy of the request to renew [restrictions] was sent to Aeroflot,” the statement said.

The US Department of Commerce introduced a 180-day restriction on Aeroflot on April 7 last year. The Utair and Azur Air airlines also fell under the restrictions, and later similar sanctions were imposed against the Rossiya company. The agency explained its decision by “continuing export violations related to complex export controls on Russia” introduced by the US Department of Commerce.

Minister Gina Raimondo said that Washington was depriving Russian airlines not only of access to US products, but also of the re-export of US goods from abroad.

This ban, as follows from the document, was extended by 180 days on October 3 last year.

After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the United States imposed restrictions on the export of aviation products to RUSSIA. All aircraft manufactured in the US or containing more than 25% US-made parts must obtain a special license if they are to be delivered to Russia. Also, the skies were closed for Russian aircraft, the restrictions also apply to the flights of all Aeroflot ships.
