Media: Washington imposes new sanctions against Russia over the Scripal case

U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree to introduce a second package of sanctions against RUSSIA. This was reported by Politico with reference to two U.S. officials.

 

Restrictive measures will be introduced in connection with the use of the substance "Novichok" in British Salisbury. it is noted that the State Department and the Ministry of Finance prepared a package of sanctions in late March, but the U.S. leader postponed the signing of the document. According to the weekly, he specifically froze the second round of sanctions due to his unwillingness to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin.

 

In July, the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee called on Trump to introduce a second round of sanctions against Moscow. Thus, the plan was to "bring Russia to justice for the brutal use of chemical weapons in Europe.

 

In August 2018, Washington introduced another package of sanctions against Russia because of the incident with the poisoning of former GRU officer Sergei Skripal in the UK. London accuses Moscow of involvement in the poisoning. Russia denies the charges.
