Abramovich's business partner Evgeny Shvidler decided to challenge the UK sanctions in February. The businessman cannot influence Russian policy, his lawyers say. London insists on maintaining the restrictive measures Evgeny Shvidler

The HEAD of Millhouse, business partner of Roman Abramovich Evgeny Shvidler (FORBES estimates his fortune at $1.6 billion), who decided to challenge the UK sanctions imposed on him in COURT , said that the last time he saw Russian President Vladimir Putin was at the funeral of Boris Yeltsin in 2007, writesBLOOMBERG .

Shvidler has no influence over Russian government policy, including on Ukraine, his lawyers say. The billionaire appeared in court via video link from the US , saying he had suffered “serious hardships” since being hit by British sanctions. He said his children had been expelled from the schools they attended.

Shvidler is a British citizen and claims that he has never had Russian citizenship. He fell under London's sanctions (which provide for the blocking of funds and assets) in the spring of 2022 for actions "threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence of Ukraine." Restrictive measures in Britain "due to ties to the Kremlin" were also introduced at the same time against Shvidler's business partner, businessman Roman Abramovich (Forbes estimates his fortune at $9.2 billion).

Shvidler decided to challenge the imposition of UK sanctions in February 2023. His lawyer Michael O'Kane expressed the opinion that the application of sanctions was disproportionate to the influence that London believed Shvidler could exert on the Russian authorities .
