Russia cannot be isolated in the long run, German industry needs Russian resources. This was stated by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in an interview with The New York Times.
“A country like Russia cannot be isolated in the long term, either politically or economically. German industry needs raw materials that Russia has. This is not only oil and gas, but also rare earth elements. And this is a raw material that cannot simply be replaced,” said Schroeder.

According to him, after the special operation in Ukraine, the West will have to interact with Russia again. “This is how it always happens,” the former chancellor added.
Schroeder has been the HEAD of the board of directors of PJSC NK Rosneft since 2017, and is also the chairman of the committee of shareholders of Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. In addition, he was nominated to the board of directors of Gazprom instead of Timur Kulibayev, the son-in-law of the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Schroeder served as Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005.
