Since April 7, Sberbank has stopped all transfers abroad in foreign currency. The ban applies to transfers at bank branches and in the Sberbank Online mobile application. This was reported to RBC by a representative of a credit institution.

This decision was made in connection with the entry into force of sanctions restrictions on foreign exchange transactions with correspondent accounts in foreign banks, said a representative of the bank. “Transfers made from April 6 will be returned to the client's account in full, together with the commission. Transfers abroad in bank branches in rubles are available to residents in the usual mode without restrictions,” he added.

The Central Bank allowed individuals to transfer abroad up to $ 10 thousand per month Finance

it also remains possible to make ruble transfers by phone number through a mobile application to neighboring countries: Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and also to Pridnestrovie. The representative of the bank added that in Sberbank more than 90% of all transfers abroad are transfers in rubles to neighboring countries.

For the first time, Sberbank came under US sanctions on February 24 - it was included in the CAPTA list, which implies restrictions on correspondent accounts in the United States. And on March 1, London imposed sanctions against Sberbank, ordering the closure of correspondent accounts and banning clearing operations in pounds.

As a result, since March 18, transfers to other banks in dollars, pounds sterling, Danish and Swedish krona, Canadian dollars have become unavailable to Sberbank customers, Sberbank warned. However, it remained possible to transfer money in euros, yen, Swiss francs, Norwegian kroner and Singapore dollars.

On April 6, the US announced the imposition of full blocking sanctions against Sberbank and Alfa-Bank, which means blocking their assets associated with the US financial system, as well as the risk of secondary sanctions for cooperation with them. Restrictions against Sberbank and Alfa-Bank on April 8 were also introduced by Japan. The European Union did not impose sanctions on Sberbank.
