Moscow has no grounds for a new round of talks with Washington on security guarantees any time soon. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov in an interview with RTVI.
“I see no reason to sit down in the coming days (at the negotiating table. -), gather again and start these same discussions,” Ryabkov said.
He called the main problem that the United States and NATO “under no circumstances, for any reason” do not agree to Russia’s demands not to expand the alliance and return its borders to the 1997 borders, as well as to provide “legally binding guarantees of non-deployment relevant systems in close proximity to our borders.”
He clarified that the US and allies, in response to Russia's key proposals on security guarantees, actually answered "no" and want to discuss only those problems that are of interest to them. “And where they tell us “yes, let's discuss further,” we, in turn, note that, for all the importance and seriousness of these particular stories, they are secondary to the same non-expansion of NATO. This is, to a certain extent, a dead end or a difference in approaches,” the Deputy Minister noted.
