RUSSIA has banned 154 members of the British House of Lords from entering the country in response to sanctions against "almost the entire" composition of the Russian Federation Council. This is stated in a statement on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“In response to the decision taken in March by the UK government to include almost the entire composition of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on the sanctions list, on the basis of reciprocity, personal restrictions are being introduced against 154 members of the House of Lords of the British Parliament,” the statement said.
The sanctions list, in particular, included the chairman of the House of Lords, John McFall, as well as many members of the Conservative Party (led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson). According to the Foreign Ministry, these individuals “made a direct contribution to the development of London’s anti-Russian sanctions measures aimed at creating conditions for the political isolation of Russia and the destruction of its economy, and used their authority to whip up anti-Russian hysteria.” All of them are now banned from entering Russia.

The Russian authorities called the sanctions of Western states illegal and promised to respond to them. In particular, many foreign politicians, businessmen and cultural figures have already fallen under Moscow's retaliatory restrictions. Russia also converted gas payments into rubles and announced a number of other measures against unfriendly countries.
Medvedev has previously warned that sanctions against Russia could see the world face logistical, energy, financial and food crises, new regional conflicts and terrorist intensification. According to him, as a result, "new international alliances of countries based on pragmatic, rather than ideological Anglo-Saxon criteria" may also appear.
