Russia imposed sanctions against the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Japan

Russian authorities have banned 63 Japanese citizens from entering the country in response to an "unprecedented anti-Russian campaign," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement that Tokyo's actions are aimed at "dismantling good neighborly ties, damaging the Russian economy and international authority" of Moscow.

The restrictions included Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Finance Minister Shun'ichi Suzuki, Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi and Justice Minister Yoshihisa Furukawa.

Also , sanctions were imposed against members of both houses of the Japanese parliament, the chairman of the association for policy development regarding the problem of the northern territories (as Tokyo calls the South Kuriles) Mamoru Morohoshi and the heads of major media outlets: the Sankei newspaper, Yomiuri Group and Nikkei media holdings, the Sports communications portal, Sentaku magazine and others.

Japan has previously introduced several packages of restrictive measures against Russia in connection with the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Tokyo has also imposed sanctions on dozens of Russian companies and imposed restrictions on banks. Japan also deprived Russia of the most favored nation treatment in trade.

In response, Moscow refused to continue negotiations with Tokyo on a peace treaty due to the "unfriendly nature of the unilateral restrictions imposed by Japan against Russia."
