EU countries have gone too far with sanctions against RUSSIA and cannot back down. This was stated by Russia's Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov at a press conference in Brussels, TASS reports.
Chizhov will soon leave Belgium in connection with the completion of his “business trip” and return to Russia. He served as Permanent Representative for 17 years, since July 2005.
“They have gone far enough and they can’t retreat anymore. They could, for example, turn the Nord Stream 2 crane. And their problem will be solved. The EU countries and their allies began to impose sanctions against Russia since the end of February against the background of the military operation in Ukraine. In total, the EU has already introduced seven packages of sanctions. The restrictive measures affected the Central Bank, gold and foreign exchange reserves, major banks, a wide range of imports and exports, the energy sector, Russian businessmen, politicians and public figures.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the sanctions "crazy and thoughtless" and noted that only the direct losses of the European Union "from the sanctions fever" for the coming year could exceed $400 billion.
As for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Germany suspended its certification on February 22, after the Russian authorities recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR. The next day, the United States imposed sanctions against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project and company officials. CEO Matthias Warnig has been placed on the SDN sanctions list, which provides for the freezing of assets and isolation from the DOLLAR system.
