Pashinyan announced compliance with the rules in the context of sanctions against Russia

Armenia manages to comply with the rules in the face of anti-Russian sanctions, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with AFP, Armenpress reports.

“On the issue of sanctions, we are in close contact and cooperating with the EU Special Envoy and the US Representative to ensure that we act as a responsible member of the international community. <...> From the first days, we understood that the sanctions that the West and other countries impose on RUSSIA will create certain problems,” Pashinyan said. According to him, if “such a boundless country as Russia” can afford to face restrictions, then Armenia cannot. This is the rule followed by the Armenian authorities when making decisions regarding Russian trading partners.

At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that Armenia has no objections or claims from the American, European and Russian partners at the official level. He stressed that Yerevan does not want to "play tricky games with our partners," which he often talks about. Pashinyan noted that there are still problems. “The sanctions regime changes frequently. <...> This is the private sector that moves goods. We are doing our best to make sure that everything is done in accordance with the rule I just mentioned,” the Prime Minister said.

On April 14, the Armenian edition of Hraparak, citing anonymous sources, reported that during the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Berlin , he was given "persistent warnings" about the need to close parallel imports to Russia.

The State Revenue Committee of Armenia told RBC that when importing and exporting goods to Russia, the country is guided by the rules of the Eurasian Economic Union, there are no other restrictions on these operations. The Committee performs the role of the customs and tax service in Armenia.

In 2022, exports from Armenia to Russia almost tripled - from $841 million to $2.411 billion. Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said that Armenia re-exports goods to Russia, but not sanctioned ones: the government monitors this so as not to fall under secondary sanctions .
